Athens Bus Strike on December 17, 2025: What Passengers Need to Know


Bus service in Athens will be heavily affected on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, as drivers plan a six-hour work stoppage from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Transit officials warn that the impact will extend beyond those hours.

Limited Service Before and After the Strike

According to the transit authority:

  • the last morning buses will head out before 10:00 a.m.,

  • regular service won’t fully resume until around 6:00 p.m., once buses gradually return to their routes.

For most of the day, riders can expect very limited or no service on many lines across the city.

The only routes not affected by the stoppage will be the suburban bus lines serving Eastern and Western Attica. Those services are expected to operate on their usual schedules.

Why Drivers Are Stopping Work

The OASA Workers’ Union called the work stoppage to allow members to attend the union’s General Assembly and elections. The union says the large number of employees required to participate makes it impossible to keep the full network running.

With major disruptions expected for most of the day, passengers are advised to:

  • plan trips well in advance,

  • allow extra travel time,

  • consider alternate ways of getting around the city.
