A major 48-hour taxi strike has been announced across Greece for December 2 and 3. The Panhellenic Taxi Federation says the industry has reached a breaking point after months of unproductive talks with the Ministry of Transport and other government bodies. According to the federation, none of the core issues affecting drivers’ daily operations and long-term sustainability have been addressed.

Taxi representatives say they have repeatedly requested concrete solutions, but instead received delays, vague promises and no real action. As operating costs rise and competition intensifies, drivers argue that the current conditions are making it increasingly difficult to stay in business. Their key demands include pushing the mandatory electrification deadline to 2035, enforcing rules against illegal ride services and combating what they describe as unfair competition from multinational ride-hailing apps. They are also calling for higher fare rates, updated pricing structures, fairer tax treatment and renewed access for occupied taxis to dedicated bus lanes.
Alongside the strike, the federation plans to convene a sector-wide council to determine next steps, including the possibility of long-term protests. A meeting with the Ministry of Transport is expected, but taxi leaders warn that unless concrete measures are presented, the industry is prepared to escalate its actions.

Greece is entering a turbulent start to December as taxi drivers announce a nationwide 48-hour strike on December 2-3, disrupting transportation and drawing attention to long-standing issues within the industry.
